Volkswagen has revealed the 8th generation of Golf GTi. It has turbocharged 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine (the good old EA888) that produces 242 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque.
It remains front wheel drive and just like previous generation it will come with 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox is available as option.
New GTi will have strut-type front and multilink rear suspension with new generation of DCC adaptive damping system for improved comfort and performance. It comes with 17-inch wheels as standard but 18 and 19 inch wheels will be available as option.
The new Golf will also be available as diesel performance model (Golf GTD) with 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine that produces 197 hp and 400 Nm of torque and plug-in hybrid model (Golf GTE) that has 1.4 liter tubocharged engine produced 147 horsepower and electric motor that produces 114 horsepower with a total output of 241 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. GTE will have 13kWh battery and will be able to do around 60 km (37 miles) using only electricity and achieve speeds of up to 130 km/h in this mode.
